Re: DHA amounts

Rhonda Patrick recommends 2g DHA per day; however, she published a paper that shows APOE4 carriers need the ethyl ester form, not the triglyceride form most fish oil supplements use. Apparently, the triglyceride form does not cross the blood brain barrier well in APOE4 carriers. Here's a clip of he...

I use Carlson Elite DHA that has 2,270 mg DHA per tsp along with 430 mg EPA. Tastes good and very good brand. Thanks for the info. "Tastes good"? Do I assume it's a liquid then? I'm looking for capsules, because I'm retired and travel a lot....sometimes flying but sometimes driving for se...

DHA amounts

Hey everyone, Saw Bredesen discussing DHA on FB for us Apoe4 carriers and know he recommends we get way more DHA than the usual amount in a DHA-EPA krill or fish oil supplement. Was it 1000 mg a day? I can't remember. But several of us asked in the comment section if he meant 1000 mg of DHA alone or...

Re: Calcium Supplements

Hi Jan18, Some thoughts on alternatives to dairy: Kukicha tea is very high in calcium The supplement Ca-AKG has about 10% calcium but is a supplement known to be good for bone formation My doctor recommends taking the MK-7 version of the K2 supplement, at least 90 mcg a day Enriched Rice milk (the ...

Re: Calcium Supplements

Hi Jan18! I'll be really interested in hearing what calcium your cardiologist will recommend for you. Like you, I'm part of the "totally scared of of bHRT generation". I remember reading about the WHI and thinking "Oh, No! I'll never do that!" a few years ago I had a chance to t...

Re: Calcium Supplements

Hi Jan18, I also have osteopenia. And on the advise of my doctor I’ve started to take some Ca in Supplements and also eating more dairy. Because my cholesterol is high, my request for a CAC was honored and paid for by insurance. My CAC is Zero, which makes me not as concerned about Ca as I was befo...

Re: Calcium Supplements

Have you looked at plant-based milk? The almond milk I drink has 600 mg calcium per cup (and only 35 calories). Hey Quantifier....did some research and found out the carrageenan (thickener) in almond milk can indeed cause stomach issues. Guess that's what hurt my stomach. And so far, I haven't foun...

Re: Polyphenols, heat, and shipped olive oil

... You know, like is that more destructive than cooking, say, spanakopita (which I make, but with only two scant sheets of phyllo dough on top and bottom instead of the many layers called for in most recipes) for 25 minutes at 424 degrees? The article said 40% of the polyphenol content is degraded...

Re: Polyphenols, heat, and shipped olive oil

Hi Jan, I think you are thinking like a scientist! Yes, odd for a retired Humanities/Literature/Writing educator that I'm becoming more left-brained than right these days (even though those terms are controversial)! I often fall into analysis-paralysis. Your points are well-taken. Thanks!
