Re: Likely pre diabetes but low fasting insulin

My fasting insulin in 2018 was 6 but in the last few years it’s been 3 and I haven’t been in ketosis most of that stretch. Fasting insulin by itself is not a very useful marker. It would be good to get a glucose stress test with insulin. You take a set amount of glucose and watch how your Blood Sug...

Re: Feel like my time is running out

I look at the coming medicine and even that doesn't seem uplifting. The recently approved drugs offer a marginal and debatable slowing of the disease, nothing more, and as an ApoE 4/4, my increased chances of severe side effects seem almost disqualifying. I know ALZ-801 has had somewhat promising r...

Re: Welcome!!!

Hello everyone, I am new here, and very glad to have discovered this, since I am quite alone in this APOE4 quest. I am a 48 year old woman from Europe, and was diagnosed last year with APOE4/E4. Welcome from another 4/4! It sounds like your Blood Brain Barrier is under constant assault from various...

Re: Statins when you’re homozygous APOE4

Mike, Are you still mostly carnivore? Is Repatha alone (no other drug) keeping your cholesterol low enough for Dr. Bredesen's recommendations? I can no longer eat fish/shellfish and my cholesterol has gone way, way too high. Do you have any side effects from the Repatha? I know I have a bad gene fo...

Re: The New Age of Alzheimer's Special Report - Scientific American + Davos Alzheimer's Collaborative

This is June, 4/4, a new member as of 6/10/24. Hi June, and welcome from another 4/4. I think this series of articles would be good for new folks to read. It discusses the advances in finding that miracle cure and the likelihood of AD becoming a treatable disease in the not too distant future. Shou...

Re: Statins when you’re homozygous APOE4

I'm not that concerned about rising cholesterol levels, and I've already reasonably reduced it in my diet. Yet having a higher ApoB and direct evidence of calcium in my cardiac arteries is a much more compelling reason to consider statins. I've tried a number of Statins and they all caused muscle b...

Re: Statins when you’re homozygous APOE4

AnnieV - Do you consider 66 to be too late to make changes? With the exception of eating saturated fat (and margarine for my first 30 years before most people knew better) I lifestyle has been good for E4 but cholesterol and CAC scan nonetheless bad for my age putting me in the 75th percentile. Ann...

Re: Protein

I am very frustrated with diet. All meat is excluded except seafood? Eggs as well. Many folks here follow different diets. I'm 4/4 and believe that means I should stick to an ancestral hunter / gatherer diet of man prior to farming and constant carbs. I eat meat and hate most seafoods. Eggs, chicke...
