Article: APOE loss of function: A genetic shield against Alzheimer’s disease
This study finds [not surprisingly] that a loss of function in an APOE ε4 allele can provide resistance to Alzheimer’s disease. Note that this loss of function is apparently very rare "in the wild" and only seven individuals with various APOE mutations were analyzed. The paper asserts that...

Re: High HDL risk factor for AD
Oh No! Man the risk factors keep coming. My HDL runs between 82mg/dl and 95mg/dl. I guess giving up my daily half avocado, Evo, oily fish and exercise is not a plan  You might want to listen to this podcast to get an excessively better understanding of HDL, to the extent it's understood. #240 ...

Kellyann Niotis talk: Preventive Neurology: Targeting ApoE4 to Combat Alzheimer's Disease
Another lipid.org journal club talk, this one by Kellyann Niotis (formerly of Cornell Weill): https://www.lipid.org/media/journalclub/selaspeaks04/ This presentation has some overlap with the Thomas Dayspring talk, but doesn't tend to go as deep and focuses more on APOE4 topics of interest. (IMO). R...

Causal evidence that herpes zoster vaccination prevents a proportion of dementia cases
Note that this study (preprint) doesn't address why a shingles (herpes zoster) vaccination might prevent dementia, but does provide an interesting look at dementia incidence in two very similar populations, differentiated by date of birth. (Which was an eligibility criterion for receiving the shingl...

Re: Very Good Peter Attia podcast
But, I can say that my dad (who is 83 and is significantly starting to decline cognitively) lost his sense of smell and taste over 10 years ago. I had no idea that there was a possible connection. My father lost much of his sense of smell and taste in his early fifties. Now 90, he definitely has co...
