Re: Jim's Journey

Increasing calories (and anaerobic exercise) makes sense, through doing so with carbs (admittedly consistent with these recommendations) would require a shift in perspective (vs. just eating more of my current diet) and potentially raise concern about oxidized LDL (advanced glycation end products; ...

Re: Jim's Journey

Physical Challenges: Feel very fit but underweight Cardio excellent but muscle mass lacking aerobic - 90% anaerobic - 10% Appetite Challenges: Hungry most afternoons, even after meals. Caloric deficit? Nutritionally deficient? I do a similar diet, the final piece going low oxalate almost 3 years ag...

Re: High energy expenditure and APOE 4

I'm going to switch to a 12 hour eating window to fit in more meals and fatten up. I won't be able to exercise very much on my trip so hopefully that will also provide an opportunity to gain weight. I'm traveling with 3 pounds of nuts, cans of mackeral, and packets of olive oil. From a fellow, stru...

Re: Gene IL-6 and AD risk

This seems like a sensible approach to me (?) Homocysteine is an easy test, so probably worth doing before you throw TMG (betaine) in the mix. Some people can control high homocysteine just with folate, B12, and B6 supplementation. If you want to do a deeper dive into all things related to folate, ...

Re: Gene IL-6 and AD risk

Has anybody looked at this, its a big enough challenge having APOE4 status let alone having another AD risk! Our genes are not necessarily our destiny, but there are things we can do to support/counter variants we'd rather not have. In relation to IL6-174 Gene and AD risk, this article seems to be ...

Re: Why Such a High Baseline Glucose?

On a recent trip to the Oregon coast, I decided to minimize this intake & hence reduce my fat intake. The observation was that my fasting glucose declined by 15-20 mg/dL... Interesting to see that much drop just by stopping the nuts. I stopped eating nuts due to oxalates but don't recall any no...

What does your current % fat intake look like these days?

And how much do you think you dropped the % fat to see an impact on your morning reading?

Always in tweaking mode and this could prove helpful for me...

Coconut products always raise my lipid numbers. Can't speak to dairy because I can't eat it without problems. I switched from coconut milk to flax milk (Good Karma, unsweetened) with good results. It might be worth a try.

Re: Celebration Thread! Biogen is going to the FDA with Aducan.

The problem until this point has been that we had to wait and wait and watch for all these years and years as our loved ones progressed from slight but noticeable cognitive impairment, to MCI, to early AD, to moderate AD, to severe AD and then to complete dependence AD. AD has been our life. Hope t...

Re: Delirium

I now have the problem that one my wife gets up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet she won't go back to sleep. And there is potential for Suvorexant to have other positive effects. Here's a link to another thread with the details, and note it's very early in the research cycle. (Edit, N...
