Re: CETP: Corporate speculation re: blocking AD and more
For those who are very interested in lipids. From Thomas Dayspring " Illustration of INDIRECT Reverse Cholesterol Transport where HDL acquires cellular cholesterol, esterifies it to cholesteryl ester & then using CETP, transfers CE to LDL which delivers the CE to the liver: returning CE to ...

CETP: Corporate speculation re: blocking AD and more
Rather than cluttering up @alantisw's post, I'll add this related information separately. Thomas Dayspring recommended this bit of research description from New Amsterdam Pharmaceuticals which provides an overview of their CETP inhibitor Obicetrapib. To save you a trip to their fancy web site, here ...

Re: Fructose leads to Alzheimer’s? (new hypothesis and wiki)
Fascinated by this, I felt we needed a new ApoE4.info wiki on this subject, it can be found here: From Fructose to Alzheimer's . I tried to keep the discussion high level and accessible, but there's so much to this subject, I hope I did it justice. ... Theresa, this is a superb addition to the wiki...

Re: Combined metabolic activators improve cognitive functions in AD patients
Interesting - thanks Plumster. I wonder if they have the resources to proceed to a meaningful phase 3 trial in Turkey or somewhere else in the EU? (Maybe even including ApoE genotyping this time.) It's difficult for me to believe that anyone would fund a large phase 3 trial in the US for a relativel...

Re: Using statins with APOE 3/4 genetics
... but I’ve read that statins shouldn’t be taken if you have a APOE4 marker. For what it's worth, Peter Attia uses blood plasma levels of desmosterol as an indicator of whether statins might be adversely affecting brain lipid levels in his patients: From a clinical perspective, low desmosterol lev...

Re: Anti-amyloid antibody drugs and brain shrinkage
I quoted one of those articles noting brain shrinkage in the Lecanamab: Efficacy, Side Effects, and More thread. This is concerning given that brain shrinkage is associated with dementia and we don't know long term effects of these drugs yet. Thanks Theresa, I had forgotten that. Excellent question...

Anti-amyloid antibody drugs and brain shrinkage
Two very readable opinion pieces touching on evidence that anti-amyloid antibody treatments may exacerbate brain shrinkage. The summary is that this apparent phenomenon ought to be better understood before widespread use of these drugs (e.g. lecanemab). Derek Lowe blog (motivated by the Stat article...
