Re: Hack for falling back asleep in middle of the night
This approach worked well for me to get back to sleep after several middle of the night ruminations.. (As an alternative for some, my sister s...

OT: LCHF diet and the gut
The gut - it's more complicated than you think. And don't rely on mouse studies for your diet advice. I thought this STEM-Talk podcast with Tommy Woods was interesting: Episode 128: Tommy Wood talks about high-fat diets and the metabolic flexibility of the human gut They discuss the findings of this...

Peter Attia: Statins, Dementia, Desmosterol
Peter Attia's most recent weekly note discussion brain cholesterol, statins and desmosterol. Does low cholesterol cause cognitive impairment? Part II One of the most common causes of reduced desmosterol is statin therapy. Statins can cross the BBB — and while the data is conflicting — a recent study...

Effect of Levetiracetam on Cognition in Patients With Alzheimer Disease With and Without Epileptiform Activity
I learned that there exists a sub-type of AD patients who have "silent" epileptic activity in their brains. And that the epilepsy drug Levetiracetam is beneficial in improving their AD symptoms. I guess time will tell if this is just a "duh ..." kind of thing, where the epilepsy ...

Re: APOΕ4 lowers energy expenditure in females and impairs glucose oxidation by increasing flux through aerobic glycolys
Perhaps. Or maybe other advantages offered by APOE4 (enhanced immune activity against parasites?) made up for the side effects.SusanJ wrote:My first take is that there must be some reproductive advantage for E4 females to have this decreased resting energy expenditure.

Re: Review: NAD+ in Alzheimer’s Disease
I only skimmed this a little, but this bit popped out: 'Dietary treatment of NR 250 mg/kg/day for 3 months in Tg2576 AD mouse model …', hmmm, let's see, then I would need to take over 13 gm/day to get the equivalent  unless I'm missing something? Mice are different. Here's a random paper whi...
