My only caution is that if your loved one has ever had kidney stones, celery juice should be avoided. It would be extremely high in oxalates.

Re: What Causes Alzheimer's? (Quanta Magazine)
If you find yourself skimming, I recommend searching within the article for "lysosome". Great article and definitely a very understandable description of the endosome/lysosome work. Good to see this comment, because it's so different than the prevailing research views in early days of thi...

Re: Request for thoughts on treating depression. Depression is linked to dementia, but anti-depression drugs are too
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) seems to be a good place to start for most people. The cognitive and behavioral interventions (if adequately implemented) can be as efficacious as medications in the treatment of even more severe depression (DeRubeis et al., 2005; Dimidjian et al., 2006) and have a...

So I will try to get a doctor to explain the blood sugar. Not every general doctor will understand what's going on. Two things to for you to look at, the dawn phenomenon and the Somogyi effect. This article from WebMd is aimed at diabetics, but has some basic information about the difference betwee...

However, 23andMe is only showing one result, ie, one A without showing what the paired result is. Maybe mtDNA isn't paired the same way, or doesn't produce heterozygous results, so they only report one result? Here's your answer about pairing, from Wikipedia: The two strands of the human mitochondr...

That's way beyond my pay grade.Plumster wrote:How do you think it would be given as an analog?
I'm mostly interested because this group is looking at something other than amyloid beta or tau as a target for treatment.

Here's another article about SHMOOSE from Being Patient. https://www.beingpatient.com/shmoose-in-the-news-influential-new-alzheimers-gene-discovered/ With its connection to mitochondrial function, this seems like one that could lead to treatments to overcome brain energy metabolism problems. Feels l...

Re: carrying a lighter mental load
Thank you for any suggestions. When I had to do some deeper work, I found the idea of "morning pages" useful. You just sit first thing in the morning and write 3 pages of whatever comes to mind to fill 3 pages. Long hand works best for me, because it slows me down. And sometimes you just ...

Re: too much olive oil?
Here is the question: is this ok? I'm one of those who can't keep on weight with a high fat diet. I do agree with NF52 that you could use more protein. Because you are eating some carbs, you might be okay with your current g/day there. I now personally shoot for 75 g of protein and 125 g of net car...

Will be interested in watching for the human trials. Professor David Leake, BHF-funded researcher who led the study at the University of Reading, said: “The potential in this drug to protect against heart attacks and strokes and ultimately save lives superseded our expectations. We hoped it would ca...
