Re: Alzheimer’s breakthrough: Genetic link to gut disorders confirmed
Thanks, Greyhound. Really interesting: “Looking at the genetic and biological characteristics common to AD and these gut disorders suggests a strong role for lipids metabolism, the immune system, and cholesterol-lowering medications,” he said. “Whilst further study is needed into the shared mechanis...

Re: Plasmologens for Neuroregeneration
Excerpts from the article: Purpose of review To highlight recent developments in studying mechanisms by which the apolipoprotein E4 (APOE4) allele affects the metabolism of brain lipids and predisposes the brain to inflammation and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) dementia. Recent findings APOE4 activates C...

Re: Question on statin and saturated fat
Hi Robin2038,
Optimal LDL is under 70, according to several lipid experts, including Dr. Thomas Dayspring.
I try to avoid as much saturated fat as possible and stick with fish/algae oil, extra virgin olive oil, avocado and avocado oil, and nuts.

Re: Hello All!
Happy to be here. I discovered I'm ApoE4 homozygous two years ago thru 23&me. I had embarked on a keto diet one year previous to that. I've transitioned to a Mediterranean keto diet which I believe to be best for both brain health and heart health. I took 40mg Atorvastatin for 12 years previous...

SusanJ, the study you mention does not apply to most of us, according to Allan Green. Here is his response to the study: "Microglial mTOR Activation Upregulates Trem2 and Enhances B-amyloid plaque clearance in the 5XFAD AD Model", Shi, 7 June 22. The 5XFAD mouse model has 5 defective genes...

Re: Plasmologens for Neuroregeneration
With respect, it is not Goodenowe's research confirmed. It is research by many who went before him confirmed . In fact he has suggested that supplements cannot work due to the fragility of the ethanolamine plasmalogen molecule within the stomach environment. (The workaround if that was correct is a...

Re: APOE-ε4 and brain iron (ferritin) levels paper
Thanks, BrianR. Does cerebrospinal fluid ferritin level match up with body ferritin levels? I read that a study of Restless Leg Syndrome with low body ferritin did correspond with low brain ferritin. But can we actually use body levels to predict? I am postmenopausal, my ferritin is about 34 and I h...

Re: Lead and Cadmium in Chocolate
Hi all, Does anyone know what brand of cocoa powder has the least lead? I know Julie has researched metals in chocolate and cocoa and found that solid chocolate will have less lead and cadmium. But sometimes I want to use cocoa and am currently just grabbing what I find, which does make me a little ...

Re: Mitochondrial and Nuclear DNA Damage Induced by Curcumin
Michael Greger recommends taking turmeric (1/4 spoon a day) rather than curcumin pills:
