Has anyone looked into this?
The cholesterol lowering efficacy of Lactobacillus plantarum ECGC 13110402 in hypercholesterolemic adults: a double-blind, randomized, placebo controlled, pilot human intervention study
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a ... 4622000093
I'm currently on Welchol for sky-high cholesterol and just ordered the probiotic used in the study. I was hoping it would work so that I didn't need to be on a statin, but after reading this thread, it seems like being on a statin (but a particular kind of statin I'd need to figure out) might be beneficial. Lots to look into and think about!

It is hard to find the risk benefit analysis of statin use but here is one of the good ones.

Here is the classic case showing the 2% who benefit it one is in the lucky clan

Worth to do a deep dive on the pros and cons.

You may find Peter Attia's two newsletters on "Does low cholesterol cause cognitive impairment?" useful, particularly part 2 in which he discusses plasma desmosterol level as a potential indicator for statin use increasing the possibility of AD.

I had a coronary calcium scan done today. My results came back 0th percentile for my age. So I shall be saying no to statins for now!seaweed wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 6:58 am

some years ago I tried a probiotic that was supposed to lower so called cholestrol but I had an adverse reaction to it and found this was not uncommon.
I ignore those ldl total cholestrol tests as the only good ones are the nmr where the particle number and size is determined. The present medical approach in my opinion does not follow the latest science and I personally ignore the advice.
Here is the latest on how the thinking has changed from the so called cholestrol hypothesis...these are the most recent articles.
