Here is a longitudinal study (2022) that found herpes virus were "linked with several neurologic and cognitive features, but not with Alzheimer's disease processes" "Having an infection was associated with longitudinal reductions in white matter volume (annual additional rate of change -0.34 cm3/year, P=0.035), notably in the temporal lobe."
