Thank you everyone for the wonderful meetup on Saturday. It was lovely to meet you all. I have found out that I also have the challenge of high ApoB so am currently researching that one!! All these Apo s that used to mean nothing but now mean everything!

Thank you Julie for the link to Ketoflex. I will study it religiously.

Hope to see you all again soon xx

Good to see so many new and familiar faces at the Meet-up on Saturday! Here are notes and resources that we discussed:

On the topic of ApoE4 and African ancestry:
"Global and local ancestry modulate APOE association with Alzheimer’s neuropathology and cognitive outcomes in an admixed sample." https://www.nature.com/articles/s41380-022-01729-x
From the paper, "Paradoxically, several studies suggest that apolipoprotein E ε4 allele (APOE4), considered the strongest genetic risk factor for late-onset AD, has a weaker effect in Blacks than in Whites [4, 5] or that the effect of APOE4 on AD risk is attenuated in African ancestry (AFR), especially when the APOE gene is on a local African ancestry [6,7,8]....In conclusion, our work corroborates the need to increase the number of admixed populations in AD research. It suggests that neuropathology, clinical outcomes, and APOE genotyping differ with different ancestry backgrounds. The association between increased AFR proportion and worse functional cognitive scores was lost in APOE4 + , supporting the hypothesis that APOE4 risk in AD is attenuated in individuals with AFR ancestry compared to EUR ancestry."

Hello. I would like to join the group.
Thank you so much.
I am blessed to have found you and your site. Thank you!!!!!
My Dad, 73, passed away one year ago with AD. He had it for a little over 10 years. His sister, my Aunt, is 70 and has been diagnosed with AD/ symptoms started over 4 years ago.
I recently tested positive for apoE4. I'm 41, a wife and mother to 4 young children. I am beyond freaked out this will happen to me as well.
Please help. I am scared.

Quick question. For the article from the BMJ it mentions including 7/12 food adherences or additions as preventative for Alzheimer’s. Do you know what those are- I couldn’t find it on the site linked or in the journal.

I’m also interested in the hormones and might have a question about that once I finish reading through it all. For now my question is as a 38 yo, should I be taking a basic birth control pill to help with hormones?

And I’m seeing differing opinions about Alzheimer’s and diet. Some saying vegan others keto etc. I’m so confused! Are people here just making decisions personally or is there some consensus on a middle path diet that I don’t know about?

Also can I please be added to the zoom call?

Thanks
Kate

I'm a guy (though with a 4/4/ wife) so female hormones aren't something I'm highly familiar with. However, from what I know, I don't think that birth control is the preferred method. Most talk about a) patches for estrogen and b) bioidentical hormones and c) progesterone. This is a search here on BHRT.

I don't think there is consensus on diet other than whole foods and maintaining good metabolic markers (blood sugar, insulin). Here there are everything from carnivore to vegan and lots in between. Saturated fat will generally drive lipids higher in 4's. Ketoflex is a pretty safe choice, IMO.
