I'm new to the site. I feel so overwhelmed with where to begin. I want to find a coach or physician in the Albany, N.Y area.
[Moderator Note: I put your topic in the text box so other can easily see it. And hugs, from someone who has been where you are and used to live in Rochester. It will get better. Nancy]

Welcome! Thank you for joining our site and posting on our forum. I am sure other members will provide you with some feedback.
I am one of the Support Team Interns here on the site and I would like to share several tools/resources to help you get the most out of your experience, because you are right, it can get very overwhelming, but we are here to help!
Take a look at the Primer , which is a detailed and informative resource written by a practicing M.D. with ApoE4/4. It includes information about the biochemistry of the ApoE4 gene and offers a variety of research-based prevention strategies.
Some helpful tips to navigate the site include the How-To Guide. It includes topics such as navigating the forum, private messaging, and searching. One great tip is using the quote (") button when replying to a post. Using the button will automatically alert the member of your response.
If you are interested in learning more about other members check out Our Stories.
Check out our WIKI for a list of many topics that may be on interest to you Wiki Main Page . You can click on any topic and it will take you to the main article on a subject. You can see we have a long list of ApoE4-Aware Healthcare Practitioners and hopefully there is someone you can find to work with. Most practitioners offer Telehealth so you do not need to go to their office. Keep in mind that laws are very different for Health Coaches and they do not need to be in the same state so there are many options for that and here is our list of trained Health Coaches ApoE4-Aware Health Coaches . Many work with their clients by Zoom or other video platform.
While there is a lot of information on this site and many others that have a similar focus, it is important to focus on one thing at a time if possible to avoid increased stress and overwhelm. Small steps add up to big outcomes in the end if you are consistent. Other members and I are here for you and we would love to hear more about you and what brought you here. What are your goals? What kind of support do you already have? How can we support you?
Again, I am so glad you joined our forum. I look forward to hearing from you in the future. Please feel free to reach out anytime.
Warmly,
Natalia

I just found out I am APOE4/4 about 24 hours ago. It has not been a great day for me

Welcome chris,
Thank you for joining our site and posting in the forum. I hope your day might be a little better finding community and support at our site. Are you also looking for a coach or practitioner in the Albany area? Our wiki is a wonderful resource and has a resource on searching for a practitioner: Searching for a Healthcare Practitioner, a list of APOE4 aware practitioners: APOE4 Aware Healthcare Practitioners and APOE4 Aware Health Coaches: APOE4 Aware Health Coaches. Also please know that having the APOE4 gene does not guarantee that a person develops AD/ Dementia. There is now so much more known about the impact of nutrition, lifestyle and other genetics on the development of the disease and so many resources to help support those with higher risks in making choices that can help avoid developing the disease. Genetics may be the gun- but lifestyle pulls the trigger! There are many people in their 50, 60s and 70s living very full and cognitively healthy lives while being 4/4 as well.
