How do you know you have IR issues? Have you ever had your A1c tested? This is a critical area for AD.

Re: Hello! New to the group
Hi Mike,
I just assumed I probably had it. Although, now that you are questioning me regarding it. I’m not 100%. I looked at my most recent labs, and compared them to Dr Bredesen’s labs regarding IR in his book. I only had one lab that was not within normal range and it wasn’t that far off.
I am going to schedule an appointment with a Bredesen trained doctor in February, so I will need to wait for that appointment to go over everything. I’m just trying to get started with the basics in the meantime.

Do you measure your blood glucose levels? Important if you think you are having IR issues.HennDJM wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 8:12 pm Hi Mike,

You mentioned that you had started an exercise program - can you tell us what that involves?

Re: Hello! New to the group
I have not been monitoring my blood sugar yet. I am slowly improving things so I don’t get overwhelmed. I have started walking 1.5 miles most days, walking around my building at work twice a day, and generally moving more. I have a strength training program I will start soon. This is in addition to reducing my feeding window, and improving my diet.mike wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 10:49 amDo you measure your blood glucose levels? All good stuff. Learning about your blood sugars is important though. Have you ever had an A1c (average glucose) tested? Also useful to test blood glucose at fasting and then 1 hour after a meal with carbs. Brain fog can be caused by blood glucose swings...HennDJM wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 8:30 pm I am slowly improving things so I don’t get overwhelmed. Re: Hello! New to the group
Thank you for the encouragement to watch my blood sugar. I have had my A1C tested and it’s always been low. I don’t currently have a way to check my blood sugar, and that’s why I don’t. I am hoping to get a prescription for a continuous one once I see the doctor. Although, I hear I need a diagnosis of diabetes for insurance to pay for it.mike wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 11:16 amAll good stuff. Learning about your blood sugars is important though. In the meantime, I have stopped eating added sugars, and processed foods. I don’t even use ketchup anymore because of the sugar. Ha!
Re: Hello! New to the group
If your A1c is low (actual value?), then probably your IR is okay. Unlikely you'll get insurance to pay for the CGM - mine was just taken away because I don't have a history of going low... complete rubbishHennDJM wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 8:21 pm [Thank you for the encouragement to watch my blood sugar. Mike I found my results from the last time this was pulled. My A1C was 4.8 in July/2022 my glucose was 87, but my insulin was 7. The insulin was above the target range in Dr Bredesen book. His target is 3-5. I have improved my diet even more since I found this site on Aug 7th. My one sugary snack is a bottle of kombucha. Otherwise, I don’t eat anything with added sugars.mike wrote: ↑Fri Sep 29, 2023 9:37 amIf your A1c is low (actual value?), then probably your IR is okay. My husband has a continuous glucose monitor, but he pays out of pocket for it. I think it’s from Levels. I really know nothing about blood sugar levels so I am waiting for a doctor to help me. I don’t want to add the stress of figuring out if my levels are too high/low right now. I’m just trying to set better habits for life. I still have school age kids and work full time. So making changes can be difficult while already being so busy. I am getting the changes made and my kids are joining in on some of them. Once I am on the right track and have a good routine. I will need to take a closer look at my kids routine. I am assuming they both would have 1 E4 from me. I want to bring them on my journey and educating them on the importance of healthy food and exercise is also a high priority for me.

4.8 is very good, maybe even low. Did you take the insulin fasting? Insulin moves around a lot and 7 is not a bad number...HennDJM wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 8:05 am Mike I found my results from the last time this was pulled. These labs were fasting. They were part of a comprehensive testing, and testing that told me I had the APO E4/4.mike wrote: ↑Sat Sep 30, 2023 10:11 am4.8 is very good, maybe even low.
