APOE 4 testing other than 23 and me or DCL(Direct consumer labs)

Post by Bettylacy »

Hi all APOE sisters and brothers,
I have a quick question about APOE 4 testing? What platform are you using for APOE4 testing? I ask this especially after the 23 and me breach in security and for clients that do not want to use direct consumer labs because of insurance and long-term-health concerns?

Thanks,
Betty

If you do either the Recode or Precode tests through Apollo, APOE is included.

Hi Betty,

If you use direct-to-consumer testing, it has no impact on either health insurance or long-term care insurance, because it doesn't go into your medical records. As a small consolation, the genetic data from 23& me users was not accessed during their breach. You could use Ancestry, although it's a good idea to check the raw data they provide on Snpedia which show the relevant "snps' for ApoE.
4/4 and still an optimist!

If you want to test for just APOE4 here is the company I used. You get the results for both alleles. The cost is $99,https://empowerdxlab.com/products/produ ... -gene-test
