What kind of fats should APOE4 NOT have?

Post by Kikiwebb »

are we NOT allowed or recommended to have MCT or coconut oil? Ghee? I try to have one in my coffee but am now confused... will it raise my cholesterol?

I HAVE to eat a dessert every night... I am very thin and if I dont I get too thin... does anyone else have a safe dessert Rec? I eat full fat greek yogurt with almond butter and dark choc chips.. or some Nicks low sugar ice cream... Mid Day square or ketocups... should I try to wean off or does anyone have the same "habit?" ha

Hi Kikiwebb, I’m not an expert on fats, but we have an excellent wiki page that covers the subject in depth. You might want to look through it. If you don’t want to read the whole thing, you can scroll down to the section on saturated fats.
https://wiki.apoe4.info/wiki/Fats,_Omeg ... A_and_More

As for desserts, there are also some recipes for desserts in the WiKi. You can scroll down to get to that section.: https://wiki.apoe4.info/wiki/Recipes_from_our_members
I just had a look at them and many are high in saturated fats, so you might want to read the WiKi on fats first!
You can also look for Keto desserts by entering that into a search engine. You can search by a category of dessert like Keto Cookies, or Keto pudding…etc.

In addition to Floramaria's suggestions, may I direct you to the ApoE4.info wiki Coconut Oil, MCT oil, and other Ketone/Cognition Boosters (salts, esters)
Where there are 2 sections of likely interest to you:
Coconut/MCT Oil and ApoE ε4
Comparison of Coconut oil to MCT oil

If you feel the need for MCT oil, I recommend an MCT oil that is only C8.

Also, if you want to learn more about Saturated Fat and ApoE4, there's our wiki
ApoE ε4 and health conditions besides (or maybe contributing to) Alzheimer’s
that has a section: Saturated Fat Sensitivity.

My lipidologist is Jamie Underberg, one of most well respected in the US. I asked him this question - his view is that it totally varies person to person, so he suggested we run a simple test. (1) Do a baseline advanced lipid panel, (2) Eat tons of saturated fat for a month (lots of butter, steak, coconut oil - it was glorious), (3) re-test. In my case, my apoB nearly doubled, which indicated I did not respond well. I've been trying to avoid them since then! You could try something similar if you really wanted :)

I've been on journey over a number of years increasing my fat intake and my Cholesterol has been going down that whole time. I do take non-statin meds more recently to try to bring it the last way to normal. I'm being genetically tested to see why my cholesterol has been stubborn, but my doc really thinks it's most likely due to my 4/4 status. The full fat yogurt by itself would be a better snack - you are adding carbs, which is what you want to avoid.
