Hello
I note Dr Bredesen frequently mentions electrolytes, in particular potassium and magnesium.
The Magnesium supplementation is fairly straight forward (Ive settled on Magnesium glycinate) but I am wondering if any of you supplement with potassium?
I have considered taking a sachet or two of electrolytes each day eg LMNT or similar but I'm unsure if these have unfriendly additives or if its the best option? I have no issues with elevated blood pressure ( systolic BP 110-115) and I am on no prescription medication other than HRT. I'm pretty healthy, but yet I'm here......
I'd be grateful for any advice on options and indeed if potassium is important. I note my blood potassium is always towards the lower end of the "normal " range. I eat a very whole food diet-ketoflex
Thanks
Lizzy
Hi Lizzy
Why don't you get the free YUKA app? It allows you to scan food products and personal care products and tells you if there are harmful additives, but also gives recommendations for similar, but healthier alternatives.
There's also a version where you pay, here in the UK it's £12.99 for a year, I'm not sure what it would be in $s. But that version lets you search for products and if you can't find them, you can upload photos of the bar code and ingredients and get a result from that.
I can tell you that LMNT is "green", it scores 53/100 and the only note is about the steviol glycosides, they say it's a relatively new additive and more tests need to be done to show the long term effects, but that in general, sweeteners may promote metabolic disorders.
I have put some effort into increasing my intake of potassium rich foods - lots of them are Keto-friendly, so there's a fair chance you might be eating quite a bit of potassium now. When did you last test compared to when you started the keto diet?
