BrainScan WNL for this APOE4/4 woman

Post by jilldrathburn »

Hello friends and colleagues,

What a whirlwind the past few weeks have been! From discovering that I carry the APOE4/4 genotype to the relief of confirming that "not even the earliest stages of Alzheimer's-related pre-dementia have begun." I'm thrilled to share that all three BrainScan test markers—pTau217, NfL, and GFAP—are normal. (I turn 63 in October.)

I tuned in to Thursday's webinar on the BrainScan, where Dr. Dale Bredesen and Julie Gregory fielded some excellent questions. Since this extraordinary group is a wellspring of APOE4 information, I'm posting my results in the hope of inspiring others to see that our genetics do not necessarily dictate our outcomes. Instead, we have a measure of control through our lifestyle choices and a strong commitment to a health-focused daily routine.

Allow me to share how I originally found inspiration to fully commit to a health and wellness routine...

As I mentioned in my introductory email last week, in January 2018, I began an alcohol-free journey after years of unhealthy alcohol use—progressing from social drinking to mild alcohol misuse, and eventually to severe alcohol use disorder. Due to many lingering health issues, I embarked on an intensive healing journey with several practitioners, employing many of the strategies Dr. Bredesen recommends. I often wonder what my BrainScan score might have been in late 2017 before I made these changes—it's very possible it would have shown different results, as my primary symptom back then was significant brain fog.

Despite my normal BrainScan results today, I am still technically at risk. So, I plan to continue with a few additional supplements recommended in ReCODE to add to my routine. One new change is I've also started a diet to induce a level of ketosis, as this is something I haven't tried before.

The old saying is true: “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!” Prevention is the most important step we can take (and one that we have control over!) to improve our lives. Let APOE4 be the catalyst that motivates us to maintain our lifestyle and health regimens for optimal well-being.

Looking forward to engaging more with you all in the coming weeks, months, and years. Is there an APOE4 annual meeting or event?

Love and light,
Jill

Huge thanks for sharing your story! As a 4/4, you inspire me and I suspect many others. Whether we have normal or abnormal results, this new testing offers an opportunity to assess the efficacy of our current strategies and regroup if necessary to improve things. The great news is that Dr. Bredesen (and others) have seen p-Tau 217 drop, suggesting that this test provides an opportunity to directly monitor our progress- a game changer.

Hi, borrisep, This is a link to the BrainScan test. It is available as a direct to Consumer test through Apollo Health. At this point, it is not covered by insurance. Here is a link to learn more:
