Hi friends! as you may recall, we recently recruited three members to engage in a 12-week experiment using pre and post ProdromeScans to see if either strength training or fasting would result in improvements. (All three volunteers decided to engage in a new strength training program; none had been using this strategy previously.) We've concluded the experiment and you can see the results in this webinar.
For anyone who's done a ProdromeScan, this is also an excellent opportunity to better understand your own results. Dr. Goodenowe goes through each report, noting the differences pre and post intervention. I learned a lot about my own results after watching. Please take a watch. It's super informative.
Huge thanks to our three volunteers and their family members for their support. Your willingness to engage has highlighted the importance of maintaining/addressing mitochondrial health, which is so important for E4 carriers. We'd love to hear if you've kept the strength training going. And, deep thanks to Dr. Emily Cole for spearheading this effort and for hosting the webinar solo while I was in the midst of a 3-day power outage.
Results of our ProdromeScan Experiment
Re: Results of our ProdromeScan Experiment
Did anyone else look back at their report and learn something new? I did. I have a significant amount of "mitochondrial leakage." I suspect that this is fairly common with E4. Dr. Goodnowe speaks about strength training as being very important to address this. Here are some additional strategies to Boost Mitochondria. Has anyone else (who's previously done the scan) found they have healthy mitochondria? I'd love to hear about your diet/lifestyle/supplements, etc.

Re: Results of our ProdromeScan Experiment
Yes julie I had it done and it came out very good with the most important part of the scan was the high dha plasmalogens. Everyone that has the apoe4 gene should get it. It’s a very informative information for everyone. Dr goodenowe & dr bredesen are the best at what they do! They are changing the health world and I wish the govt would see this! Thanks tony

Re: Results of our ProdromeScan Experiment
Thanks Julie!
Dayan presented a couple case studies at RAADfest a couple weeks ago, with very impressive data from brain volume scans. It was inspiring!
Will the ProdromeScan experiment look at that? Or is there data on cognitive changes, or some other clinically relevant endpoint? Seeing changes in biomarkers is useful, but none of these biomarkers is more than minimally validated.
Best,
Brian

ε4/ε4 (for now).
Re: Results of our ProdromeScan Experiment
Kudos for doing the scan and for your good results! Mine were also good, with a big exception- my mitochondrial function.Yes julie I had it done and it came out very good with the most important part of the scan was the high dha plasmalogens. From the webinar, Dr. Goodenowe seemed to suggest that he wanted the last two lines in #9 mitochondrial function to be a similar length. See a screenshot of my scan (above) to see the huge discrepancy. He indicated that disparity represents mitochondrial leakage. Interestingly, all 3 of our volunteers had some mitochondrial leakage as well that was improved with strength training. This isn't surprising given that E4 is closely associated with mitochondrial dysfunction but it's super cool to be able to actually track it.

Very cool that you got to see Dr. Goodenowe present! You ask some great questions about our MOD4 project... and the answer is YES. We can add any variable we'd like to our platform. This small experiment did include cognitive testing (but we didn't see any dramatic changes in 12-weeks as expected) along with the ProdromeScan and a strength training intervention.Dayan presented a couple case studies at RAADfest a couple weeks ago, with very impressive data from brain volume scans. We've created a platform (not visible yet) that will allow members to anonymously share the results of any test or biomarker, along with a description of their diet, daily regimen, etc. and results of cognitive testing. The idea is to allow members to track and share their progress (both overall health and cognition) over time. We hope to be able to identify strategies that appear to be helpful for E4 carriers. This is in development and a major undertaking. We'd warmly welcome help from anyone who'd like to pitch in.
