Dr. Alan Green passing
Dr. Alan Green passing
Dr. Green passed away yesterday in Little Neck NY. He was a pioneer in the use of rapamycin (sirolimus) and has dedicated his practice to serving APOE4 carriers in recent years. I have been his patient since 2021. What a great man, a visionary, a healer, a humble man. He will be sorely missed by those who knew him.

This is from his webpage
“January 2016 at age 72, I started treatment on a regime of 6 mg of Sirolimus, once a week for apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This is a very rare autosomal dominant heart disease for which there is no known medical treatment.”
I was a patient of Dr. Green for three years. I always joked with him that needed to live to be a 100 to give more credibility for Rapamycin. He told me that he had a lot of underlying conditions which included structural damage to his heart. In other words, he knew that he didn’t much longer to live. He was a real pioneer and a selfless individual. He will be missed.
“I was in an early stage of heart failure with shortness of breath on walking up hills. After 3 months of weekly rapamycin, I had an excellent clinical response. I continued treatment and by the end of one year, I realized that weekly rapamycin had not only improved my heart condition; but also my prostate symptoms, periodontal gingivitis, overweight and a general feeling of being old. When I hailed my 73 birthday, I felt fabulous. I have now been on continuous treatment for the past 6 years. At age 79, I have no complaints. For a more detailed description see My Story, Section IX.”
I’m so sad to hear this this news. I was a patient of Dr. Green’s for 5 years. I really enjoyed working with him and I learned so much. My last appointment was on August 16th. He didn’t sound good. I asked him how he was feeling and he told me that it was his cardiomyopathy and he was flying out to the Mayo clinic for treatment. His words to me were “I’m hoping for the best”. I was shocked and I knew it was bad. Something told me to buy him a “thank you” card and pen a personal note, letting him know how much I appreciated him and that I wished him the best. He’ll be missed. What an amazing doctor.

Oh! That is sad news. He was a true pioneer and sounded like a wonderful person. Occasionally I looked at his website and I just was telling my husband about him today, when a story about Rapamycin showed up in the New York Times.
