On research-needs immense help to give hope for the 3rd world

Post by NikkiCalinog »

I hope this message finds you well everyone.

My name is Nikki Calinog, and I am a fifth-year architecture student at Mapua University in Manila, Philippines. I am currently conducting research on designing spaces that enhance the wellness of individuals at risk of or diagnosed with dementia. While I am eager to share my APOE type, I currently lack the resources to do so.

In the Philippines, resources and laboratories for dementia research are limited. Despite the recent publication of "Enhancing Cognition and Reversing the Decline" in dementia care, awareness of this approach remains low. Projections indicate a significant increase in dementia diagnoses in our country within the next decade. As a developing nation, we face substantial challenges in addressing this issue.

I am delighted to have discovered this community and to have witnessed the transformative impact of this program on individuals' lives. I am eager to learn from everyone here and to present my research findings in the future. I am hopeful that RECODE practitioners will soon be available in the Philippines.

In the meantime, I would greatly appreciate your assistance. To develop an effective architectural solution, I need to gather insights and validate my survey questions with the help of professionals such as neurologists, psychiatrists, and gerontologists. If anyone is available for a brief interview or to review my survey questions, whether virtually or in writing, please let me know. I would be grateful for any support you can provide.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to strengthening our connection and advancing our shared goals.

Always in awe,
Nikki Calinog

Hello Nikki,

As a Support Team Intern, I’d like to welcome you to the Forum! Thank you for your studies and intention to bring awareness, education, and LITERALLY creating space for individuals at risk or diagnosed with dementia, in your part of the globe! What an amazing initiative!

No doubt that creating such a vision is challenging when resources are limited around you. We are so glad you found us as a resource, a community, and a gateway to making other connections that will aid in your mission.

I’d like to share some resources that was shared with me that you may find to be very relevant in your outreach and research efforts:

The website for the Alzheimer's Association's International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment https://istaart.alz.org/home has active groups and many free online videos and webinars that may be relevant.

Here's one example: https://training.alz.org/Research-Webin ... ing+spaces

This is a link to 2 free ISAART courses on Public Health and Dementia Caregiving which may be helpful: https://training.alz.org/PublicHealth

I hope you find these to be useful resources to start. I also hope that you receive some more leads and responses to your request here.

Warmly,
Helen

A huge thank you, Helen and the community! It's been tough years finding relevant resources for dementia, especially, aside from this community, the majority knows that it's without a cure. But with your encouragement, even when some suggested giving up, I'm closer than ever to my goal.

Hi Nikki, welcome to the community! It's great to have you on board.

I'm impressed by your research focus on designing spaces that enhance wellness for individuals with dementia. It's a crucial area of study, especially given the projected increase in dementia diagnoses in the Philippines.

I totally understand the challenges you're facing with limited resources and awareness in your country. But it's fantastic that you're driven to make a difference.

I'd be happy to help you with your research. I'm not a neurologist, psychiatrist, or gerontologist, but I can try to connect you with someone who might be willing to assist you. Alternatively, you could also consider reaching out to organizations focused on dementia care and research in the Philippines.

Hi Dany_ele,

Thanks for offering your help! I'm working on some research on dementia and have a few questions that a professional in the field, particularly someone familiar with the RECODE program, could answer. Ideally, I'd like to speak with someone both locally and internationally to gain a broader perspective.

Finding these professionals here in the Philippines seems a bit challenging to reach out to. Research suggests there's roughly one psychiatrist for every 100,000 people in the Philippines. However, I'm staying positive and hope to connect with someone eventually.

Perhaps you do have contacts with a psychologist, psychiatrist, or neurologist with experience applying the RECODE program. I would be interested in their insights and experiences, especially since RECODE is a relatively new program. For my research, I've already secured interviews with a local Fitness Coach, a local nurse, and caregivers who have experience caring for people with mild to severe dementia, however, they do not have a background in the RECODE. Aside from this, I'm also aiming to identify the necessary laboratories involved in the RECODE program. This information will help me create a layout and eventually turn it into a 3D model.

Thanks for sharing more about your research. I understand the challenges you're facing in the Philippines.

Unfortunately, I don't have direct contacts with RECODE experts, but I can suggest reaching out to international organizations like the Alzheimer's Association or WHO. They might be able to connect you with experts or provide guidance.

You could also try online forums or social media groups focused on dementia care and research. Good luck with your research, and keep me updated on your progress!

Best regards, Dany_ele

I appreciate your honesty Dany_ele. I'm only waiting for the Alzheimer's Association to respond at this time. I will report to you on my progress!

Hello Everyone!

As promised, I'm sending you an update on my research. I recently interviewed Melissa and received helpful support from the ApolloHealth Support Team. They were incredibly accommodating, and I'm very grateful for their assistance.

Currently, I'm in the planning phase, specifically working on a floor plan. Dr. Bredesen's KetoFLEX 12/3 is a major source of inspiration for the concept of this project.

However, I need some help finding a few furnishings. I'd appreciate it if you could complete this short survey.

It only takes about 10 minutes or less to answer the 15 questions.
Looking forward for your answers!
