lab tests

Post by Cvd »

I saw an ad for a company that runs 100 lab tests for $500. It is called Function Health and seems legitimate (I signed up but haven't had the tests done yet.)

https://www.functionhealth.com/how-it-works

It seems like an easier way to get some tests done rather than trying to convince a primary care doctor/ Medicare to approve some tests like heavy metals and homocysteine? At least in my experience.

Many of the tests are not included in the $500. Click on the categories and check out the specific tests that you are interested in.

Ive done it. I have been happy so far . I guess it depends on what insurance you have, for me it is cheaper then what I would pay for the additional labs out of pocket. It includes lipo(a) lipoB ,vit d and homeocysteine which are nice to get.

Thanks JD2020 and Melissa!

Glad it worked well for you, Melissa. JD2020, it is still 100 tests for $500, although yes there are also add-on tests like lyme, something called a Gallery test that checks for cancer biomarkers in blood, and bunch of others.

Happy I found this because I think it is so much easier than working with my mom's primary care doctor. Even though my mom completely failed the short term memory section of a cognitive screen years ago, he didn't tell her. When I found the visit notes and asked my mom to ask him about this, his mychart response was that he "wasn't worried" and attributed her low score to stress. When she has told him repeatedly that she is worried about her memory, he almost gaslights her and says she is fine and again, he isn't worried; it took her being diagnosed by the head of a research university neurology dept for him to believe her. When she asks for a series of lab tests that I asked her to request (homocysteine, hormone panel, TH4, nothing too crazy), he said he "doesn't believe in this" because she couldn't communicate exactly why the tests were needed. I am extremely frustrated with him... so if anyone knows of a good primary care/geriatric doctor /functional doctor in the greater Seattle area please let me know. We live in different states otherwise I would be at every dr appt with her.

Also, as an aside, I just got a new dr and although she seems great, I asked for a bunch of tests (which was still a fraction of all the labs I want done) and there was a note that I have an "anxious affect" in the visit summary. Just a small vent on requesting lab tests...

We had similar experience with my mother . I finally had to pull out that I am a Dr and she has dementia , still did not believe us ( to her defense I was half way across the country at the time) I had to use connections to get mom an evaluation in psych to get the diagnosis. I found out recently mom is a 4/4 , good news is in two days she will be 87. I live with her now and take care of her , she still knows who I am and helps me recall and spell words !
I am in Iowa now and my primary care I'm sure thinks I am crazy. It is easier and cheaper to get labs from function and make adjustments myself .

Wow, I am sorry for what you are going through. Mainstream medical is really unbelievable on these issues, right? My endocrinologist ordered a bunch of labs, and I received a note from the insurance company denying payment on many of them because they are "experimental". She doesn't take insurance, so she doesn't worry about how what she orders is going to be perceived. So...I totally understand what you are saying about just paying up to avoid all of this hassle. I just didn't know if you knew that not all tests were covered.

I’ve been meaning to ask about Function Health. Is it something that you would recommend to a 29 year old (I turn 30 in February) 4/4 female?
