To date I have;
* put him on a gluten-free, dairy-free meal plan
* increased his healthy proteins
* tripled his caloric daily intake (as he is underweight)
* he gets only good grains
* removed ALL processed foods from his diet (critical)
* include a par-steamed vegetable and protein with each meal (par-steamed helps heal the gut)
* The Dr. took him off his probiotic but I'm going to reinstute.
* Meals are strictly 3 hours apart. (also heals the gut)
* put him a 12/3 fasting program
* calculated HIS necessary water intake and adjusted accordingly
* put him on a guided movement plan....AKA exercise program
* got him tested/approved for a CPAP machine (I got this done in just 2 days)
* removed all sugar and beer from his diet
* adjusted his vitamins according to his test results and kinetic testing + Dr. recommendations.
* administered his 2nd MoCA test (this morning)

PROGRESS REPORT EVALUATION -
He still loses words but not nearly as much - Improved !
His handwriting is still scribbly - No improvement
His MoCA score went from 23 (just 14 days ago to 27 this morning. Last night is was 30 unassisted) Improved !
His sister (the only one who knows), hears an enormous improvement in his conversing. Improved !

Suggestions are welcomed.....PLEASE.
Fantastic work! You should be really proud of yourselves! It just shows how much you can achieve.
The MoCA test is a good starting point, as it is simple to administer, but it is a bit of a blunt instrument. Do you think he'd be able to have a go at the Cq test now? It's free, but it will give you more to work on and follow his improvements over time: https://www.apollohealthco.com/cognitiv ... trial-2022
And, I'm just wondering about the "good grains". Did you consider keto? You might not want to go down that road, you're clearly doing well with what you're already doing. Worth a look though? https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a ... 0724003932
I'd look at KetoFLEX 12/3 (you're already doing the 12/3 part) for a good, healthy version of keto.
Keep us in the loop!

That's just amazing! I echo Lindsey in that you should be so proud.
It sound like you have achieved so much already but if you want to keep going I would maybe look at how you can reduce toxin exposure - like mold, microplastics and chemicals found in our daily personal and household products. Maybe also consider a water filter if you don't already have one?
Then maybe also add some form of brain stimulation to keep the neurons firing. This could be in the form of online brain games (like Brain HQ) or simply learning something new which challenges the brain, like a language or instrument or a new form of dancing.
Good luck!

Thank you Lindsay. His underweight is a great concern and I don't know how to get his weight up.

Thank you for that great input, Sarah.
I've always had RO water.
I've switched out the couple toxic HBA items he was still using.
I started a BrainHQ account for him a few days ago, although he doesn't like it. I actually started an account for myself.
We play Rummicube in the evenings. I do plan to start a puzzle with him soon.

Mold testing is a great idea. I'll begin looking into that.

I've not heard of the cq test Lindsay had mentioned, but I'll be sure to look into that later today.

All and any ideas are helpful. I welcome it all and appreciate it.

Not sure of the difference between Keto and ketoFlex.
I try to keep his carbs at 100 or below / day.
His options are
Organic steel cut oats
Keto bread for a sandwich
Rice cakes
Gluten free pasta

Suggeations?

I am underweight and have been for 10+ years on this journey. Honestly the only way for me to add weight is eat a little higher carb. I'm probably around 150 grams a day right now along with some extra protein, as I've upped my weight workout. I think as long as a meal isn't all carbs, his blood sugar should do ok.

Consider veggies for carbs, too, like winter squash, carrots, sweet potatoes and the like. You could also try adding coconut milk smoothies with avocado & chocolate or avocado, blueberries and a squeeze of lemon.

Unfortunately keto percentages doesn't work for me. As soon as I drop carbs and add fats to maintain calories, my lipids go wonky and I lose weight. It seems I have genetics that run counter to successful keto...

WOW!!! That's so interesting . I'll start this for him immediately at dinner tonight. I guess it's safe, then, to let him have an entire 6 of steak and while sweet potato with organic salad??
He's eating everything g and anything I put in front of him. I also made large nut butter balls and added a small amount of raisins and coconut chips for flavor.
Thanks so very much for the input. I'm excited to try this

I'd give it a try. As we age, sarcopenia is a risk of being underweight. So as long as his labs don't go off the rails (blood sugar, A1c, etc), then it's worth trying. I know I'm personally doing better with higher protein and carbs than what the typical Bredesen diets look like (I'm 69).

More healthy fats. Extra virgin olive oil, avocado, nuts, seeds, oily fish (eg salmon, mackerel , anchovies, sardines, herring)

I hope that helps!

Are you testing for ketosis at all? It seems like a lot of carbs there. You can test accurately with a breath meter or blood meter (eg ketomojo) but if you're going to try out different foods to see what he can eat and stay in ketosis, blood meter would be not pleasant. Or you could just start with some simple ketostix (urine test strips)
