I just read this in the Wiki section and got very concerned: "It's important to understand that the ApoE4 allele is only ONE risk factor for dementia. For example, hearing loss is estimated to increase your risk of dementia by even more than the APOE4 allele does."
I have otosclerosis, which is a hardening of the stapes bone resulting in hearing loss. It is an inherited disease from father to daughter. I had a stapedectomy done in one ear over 20 years ago which restored my hearing. The other ear could use this procedure, too.
Are they saying that this disease and whatever genes caused it is a bigger risk factor than my 3/4 genes for getting Alzheimer's?!
Or do they mean some kind of nerve issue that causes hearing loss?
Does anyone know the answer to this?
Hearing Loss?
