Interesting about the coffee and theanine. Is this news to other people too? Anyway, thanks Plumster!

Following up on this older thread:
I just purchased gingko today after having listened to Dr. Daniel Amen about what enhances and restricts blood flow to the brain. My favorite quote from this really interesting interview:
I also learned that more than 100 mg of caffeine a day will restrict blood flow. A Venti from Starbucks has 300 mg of caffeine. I don't drink caffeinated coffee or tea, so that won't make a difference to me, but just in case anyone is wondering about coffee.

I want a pretty brain so I'm going to try 120 mg of gingko (Pure Encapsulations) twice a day.The prettiest brains I've ever seen take gingko

I've been thinking about caffeine lately, but I haven't had time to delve down the rabbit hole, and I've generally backed off from rabbit holes as a fun place to play but a dangerous place for me (just me) to live.Plumster wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 11:14 am I also learned that more than 100 mg of caffeine a day will restrict blood flow. I have a feeling caffeine may be one of those things with a sweet spot when the effects are beneficial, while too much could become a problem. I did a little skimming the other day, and it affects two pathways, one favorable, one not. I plan to try to trust what my brain is telling me about caffeine. It's time to stop before I become more cognitively hyper (even if still feeling good) and less wholistically calm and steady and spacious; ie, before it becomes excitotoxic … if that's in fact what's happening when the buzz starts developing.

Your approach makes sense. I haven't listened to this (yet), but here's a podcast interview with a neuroscientist and coffee historian on what coffee does to the brain. Might be of interest.

I want a pretty brain too! Maybe I'll get some gingko next time I'm buying supplements. I haven't taken that one in many years. so....good news about gingko but
it is sad to read about blood constriction with caffeine, my drug of choice!

I think you're right about that. Lots of research to support it- in moderation.I have a feeling caffeine may be one of those things with a sweet spot when the effects are beneficial, while too much could become a problem.
What about Exercise with Oxygen Therapy (EWOT) to increase blood brain flow? I've been using it for a while thanks to Dora, one of our members, who highly recommended it. I know Tincup has been using it as well. If you want to learn more, I wrote a blog that you can see here: My Experience with EWOT.My Experience with EWOT.
