Virtual Meet-up (formerly called Book Club: The End of Alzheimer's Program)
Re: Virtual Meet-up (formerly called Book Club: The End of Alzheimer's Program)
HI I am a new member, and interested in this, but I don't know much about it. Is it a book club? Or a just a meet up? What happens? Do we need to read something beforehand? Apologies if there is info somewhere and I've missed it. Vicky
Re: Virtual Meet-up (formerly called Book Club: The End of Alzheimer's Program)
Hi Vicky,
Great question! Here's what JML (Julie) said to someone who asked a similar question last year:
No pre-reading required! Here are links to some of the "minutes" and topics discussed in the past year, you can see more by scrolling up through the pages of this topic. We don't have any set topics but usually the members bring questions to the group. We like to let everyone have a short check in and introduce themselves if they are new, and all members can share wins or challenges that they have. If you have a topic you'd like to discuss, you can put it in the chat, or mention it when you check in. We always manage to have interesting discussions!

At the September Meet-Up on Saturday, JulieG mentioned this company as an option for Mold inspection and remediation. Though they claim to have nationwide coverage, they do not service New Mexico. Here is the response I got to my inquiry:
Good morning,
I am following up on a service request. Unfortunately, we do not service your location at this time. I appreciate you for reaching out to Green Home Solutions and we hope to have a location closer to you in the future.
Thank you.

While this company is not going to solve my remediation problem, maybe the contact info will be helpful for someone else.

Re: Virtual Meet-up (formerly called Book Club: The End of Alzheimer's Program)
Notes and Resources from our September 2024 Meet-up:
Klotho Gene:
Klotho and Dementia blog by Ram Rao (associate of Dr. Bredesen)
Other ideas:
Gene Testing:
You can send your raw genetic data through the gene analysis tool at Promethease.com or FoundMyFitness.com
(It was also mentioned that 23andMe is about to be sold and recommended downloading your data and deleting it from the site. Also, a member read on the Klotho thread that the Ancestry.com raw data still contains the Klotho gene. That was posted this year.)
Osteoporosis Resources:
Marodyne LIV Vibration Platform
REMS EchoLight Ultrasound scan of bone density
BrainScan Test:
Tests for P-Tau 217, GFAP and NfL
Replaces need for PET scan or spinal tap to determine PTau risk in brain
ERMI Test (Environmental Relative Moldiness Index):
Mycometrics (simple ERMI test) or
The Dust Test (ERMI with enhanced interpretation)
Urinary Mycotoxin Testing:
RealTime Labs Mycotoxin Panel (preferred by Dr. Neil Nathan)
Mosaic Labs MycoTOX Profile
Heavy Metals Testing:
Doctor’s Data Urine Toxic Metals Test (can be done with DMSA challenge)
Quicksilver Scientific Blood Metals Panel (blood test)
Klotho Gene:
Klotho and Dementia blog by Ram Rao (associate of Dr. Bredesen)
Other ideas:
- People with the KL-VS variant, which increases klotho levels, may have a reduced risk of AD, and better cognitive function
- Klotho overexpression: Increasing klotho levels in mice can improve cognition, synaptic plasticity, and lifespan, and may help prevent premature death
- Klotho and autophagy: Klotho may help clear toxic proteins by inducing autophagy, which is a contributing factor to AD
- Klotho and amyloid-beta clearance: Klotho may help clear amyloid-beta (Aβ), which can lead to cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) if not cleared properly
Gene Testing:
You can send your raw genetic data through the gene analysis tool at Promethease.com or FoundMyFitness.com

Re: Virtual Meet-up (formerly called Book Club: The End of Alzheimer's Program)
I just finished the book. I have the apoe4 gene and have been diagnosed with beginning stage of Alzheimer’s. The only thing I ever received from my birth father is this gene. J have been changing my diet, increased exercise, and read Dr. Bredesen’s book. He has given me hope that I can reverse things while still in the early stages. I am thankful for him and finding this group.

Re: Virtual Meet-up (formerly called Book Club: The End of Alzheimer's Program)
I attended the latest virtual meet up and it was SO helpful to meet others with who find Alzheimer's prevention important and to be able to ask questions. Toxins were a big topic of our conversation and Julie mentioned a few ways to make sure our homes are safe. I bought humidity sensors to see if there are any locations that have more moisture (and therefore may be a place where mold could live). I put them all over my house and most of them say 75% humidity. When I googled it said we want the humidity sensors to read under 50%. Has anyone else used these and do you know if they are accurate/if there is reason for concern about our house? Thank you!
Re: Virtual Meet-up (formerly called Book Club: The End of Alzheimer's Program)
You are correct--the RH should be 30-50% for comfort and prevention of mold growth. I use inexpensive humidity sensors all the time, and move them around my house. In the summer with the air conditioning on, they usually read 48-53% RH. I did have one closet that had elevated moisture at 65%--trying to figure that out!egluckst wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 11:46 am I attended the latest virtual meet up and it was SO helpful to meet others with who find Alzheimer's prevention important and to be able to ask questions. What is the outdoor RH when you are reading 75% in the house? Do you have air conditioning? Do you have a humidity sensor on the controler for your HVAC? If so, you can check the sensors vs. that reading. Or put them in the kitchen when you are boiling water--does the reading go up? Put them outdoors--does the reading match the weather report or a weather app?
