Global Psychometric Emergency! CRISPRed neuronal AD Treatment

I gave my loyal readers on the main Aducan celebration thread fair warning to run for the hills; I thought that I should let everyone else in on what is happening.

I am freaking out everyone! I realize that all the other times that I freaked out have not caused that much global scale disruption, though this one just might.

I am calling this a J11 Level 3 Brainwave Announcement which is to say I am not completely sure whether there is an immediate threat to human civilization; it might be more like 25/75, though it is still worth thinking about.

Basically, a fairly low end treatment could be essentially already available in some of the more regulatory loose regions of the world that could have profound impact on human cognitive ability.

The basic outline as presented in the Aducan thread yesterday is take an autologous skin sample ... then in vitro up this sample up and then inject into the brain and restore hippocampal activity. This has been done successfully in AD dogs.
Hippocampal dysfunction represents a fairly prominent aspect of the neuropathology of human AD. It will of course be fascinating to see what will happen when the basic procedure is done in humans. There are a fair number of these stem cell type clinics in the world so it is possible that such a procedure is already being performed in AD patients.

The amplifier that I am worried about is to genetically modify the autologous skin sample before growing the sample up. ~300 IQ points of human intelligence has already been found in GWAS research. There is then about another 1,000 points still to find. What one could imagine is to take an optimized genotype for hippocampal cells and CRISPR them to this genotype. Most of the international bans germ line genetic manipulation, however I am not sure whether somatic neuron manipulation would actually be against this international law. One might be able to completely comply with the law while creating a massively intelligent superintelligence. I suppose that would pretty much solve any push back we might receive about AD treatment funding etc..

In terms of the actual surgical procedure I am not completely sure about the mechanics, though I have read about the hippocampal surgery that was performed on HM the extremely well known neuroscientific patients who had this hippocampii removed in order to stop seizures. The description of his surgery noted that the surgeon went to a hardware store and bought a handdrill. The handdrill was used to cut a holes in his skull; this allowed the CSF to be drained and better surgical access of his hippocampii. The hippocampii are actually fairly deep brain structures, though through the use of a shoe horn, the surgeon was able to separate the frontal and temporal lobes to access the hippocampii. The hippocampii were then surgically pulled through the gap between brain lobes.

To inject modified hippocampii cells, one might imagine that one could use the shoe horn trick again but this time merely inject CRISPRed hippocampal neurons into the brain. One of course might wonder whether other neurons to support other brain regions might also be possible. The AD brain is notorious for exhibiting extensive atrophy. Why not simply grow it back with CRISPRed cells?

I am not that clear on how this would all look from the surgical perspective though here is a starting figure to show the hippocampii (presumably the red thingies). If anyone has a better 3D brain atlas url view please post! I am just not that clear how much clear access one would have to the hippocampii when the lobes were separated. the hippocampii do seem quite deep in, though the separation of the lobe trick could still give deep access.

It seems that you need to make a few adjustments even with the url to get things right.
For example, turn on transparency. Perhaps add in the views. The url is adding in additional detail that is
distracting. The hippocampii is the initial brain structure that is shown.
