Last two nights’ bedtime 50 mg caused no significant sleep disruption or detectable nausea. Day after stomach sort of felt a little like I had an alcohol hangover- a little tiny hint- but barely noticeable. What is it so different during sleep that its effects are so different when taken right before? If I’m up to visit the loo during the night I don’t feel anything so it’s not that I’m sleeping through symptoms that are there. How strange.

My order of 100g intellimeds.net homotaurine powder has just arrived.
I tried 25mg after lunch, accidental sublingual/buccal absorption. I was trying to confirm it had no taste and in so doing discovered it dissolved rapidly.
1 hour later and no nausea. Actually feel great, slight runners high feeling (anandamide) also similar to the few times I tried phenibut. Definite GABA-A agonist and perhaps I felt it more due to the rapid absorption?
Also just noticed that my tinnitus is the worst it has been for a long time, definitely not placebo. Will see when it subsides. Depending on sources homotaurine has a 3 hour or 4-6 hour plasma half-life.

I was not aware of this until a quick search: https://treblehealth.com/what-is-gaba-tinnitus/
"Because GABA is essential for the auditory system to function properly, when GABA concentrations are too high or too low, chronic tinnitus and other hearing and ear conditions can result"

Cautiously optimistic that this is the real stuff and not just relabelled taurine.
I'll try 50mg tomorrow.

Disrupted sleep last night but may be unrelated. Only 35mg today on an empty stomach this morning.
Sublingually, although I'm sure a large fraction is being swallowed. It is a small molecule at only 139 daltons and sublingual absorption seems to happen below 500 but I'm no expert on this.
30m later I did experience mild stomach upset but this completely resolved after eating.
Tinnitus increase is there but reduced from yesterdays peak when it returned to barely noticeable after around 7 hours.
I'll maintain this dose for a week and report back.
100g for $56USD shipped, @300mg per day would be just under a years worth, not bad.

Thank you for reporting your experience! I've got tinnitus from an airbag deployment in a car 15+ years ago. I've not noticed any increase from consuming 150 mg of the SuperSmart brand homotaurine in the morning and 50 mg before bed.

I've had tinnitus for 10-15 years. 50mg of homotaurine at night has had no effect, so far.

Hi everyone. Happy New Year.

I've been taking 100mg / day of homotaurine. I find a side effect for me is a busy, hyperactive brain. I describe it as racing thoughts that overlap instead of coming one at a time - not too bad but a little odd. Of course this makes sense since it is a GAMA partial agonist, which lowers the neuronal calming activity of GABA a bit.

I take it at night but the effects linger into the next day.

Anyone else experience this?

yes definitely in a previous post on this or another thread on this substance. The vision center of the brain tends to create quick interesting images when my eyes are closed too.

Hi Veero. Thanks for reminding me of that. I'm hoping it stops eventually. I'd prefer to see one thing at a time. ;)

I'm just catching up on this thread and material. It reminds me somewhat of EPPS:

EPPS rescues hippocampus-dependent cognitive deficits in APP/PS1 mice by disaggregation of amyloid-β oligomers and plaques

I have to digest this Nemergut (2023) paper more fully. I've only glanced at it and the material is pretty dense .

Given the down regulation of p-ERK, does it make sense to take this first thing in the morning without exercise or late in the day away from food/exercise?

Aphorist. Good question. The Alzheon studies didn't look at different time of day dosing. I'm not sure it would make a huge difference, but, like you, I haven't yet fully digested the Nemergut paper.

I'm aiming for the apoE4 structure corrector function, which makes me want to take homotaurine throughout the day.
ε4/ε4 (for now).
